Gray Media to Buy WSFX-TV in $50M Six-Station Deal

The Fox affiliate joins Gray's Wilmington lineup alongside NBC's WECT, which already produces its news.

Gray Media has agreed to buy six television stations, including Wilmington's Fox affiliate WSFX-TV, from Charlotte-based American Spirit Media LLC for $50 million. Atlanta-based Gray already owns Wilmington's NBC affiliate WECT and has produced WSFX's local news under a shared-services arrangement, so viewers likely won't notice immediate changes.

The deal also includes Fox affiliates in Toledo, Ohio; Jackson, Mississippi; Columbus, Georgia; Wichita Falls, Texas; and Lake Charles, Louisiana. Gray closed the first phase on June 30, paying $40 million and funding part of the purchase with a $70 million private placement of 7.25% notes, according to SEC filings.

Florida Firm DermCare Acquires Wilmington Dermatology Center

The physician-owned practice, founded in 2008, joins a nearly 50-brand, 100-location national network.

DermCare Management, a Florida-based practice management firm, has acquired Wilmington Dermatology Center along with Fort Worth Plastic Surgery, growing its footprint to nearly 50 brands and about 100 locations. Terms were not disclosed.

Wilmington Dermatology, founded by board-certified dermatologist Rosalyn George in 2008, ranks in the top 1% of Botox and filler practices nationally, according to its website. The practice will keep its physicians' clinical autonomy while shifting marketing, billing, HR and technology support to DermCare, CEO Jeffrey Schillinger said.

Novant Opens Shallotte Infusion Clinic, More Brunswick Projects Ahead

The new center treats anemia, MS, rheumatoid arthritis and other conditions three days a week.

Novant Health opened an infusion clinic at 512 Village Road in Shallotte on July 21, running Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The clinic offers outpatient IV treatment for anemia, asthma, heart failure, inflammatory bowel disease, migraine, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis, plus chemotherapy infusions.

Novant also has an ambulatory surgery center opening this summer near Leland, an expanded MRI suite and cardiac catheterization lab at Brunswick Medical Center in Bolivia, and a future 20-bed Novant Health Leland Medical Center in the pipeline for the fast-growing county.

Charleston Homebuilder New Leaf Enters Brunswick County

The Riverlights builder is now part of East Lake, a planned 3,500-4,000 home community in Leland.

New Leaf Builders, which built its Wilmington-area presence in the 1,400-acre Riverlights community off River Road, is now building in Brunswick County for the first time. The Charleston-based homebuilder is part of East Lake, a more than 2,000-acre master-planned community on Malmo Loop Road in Leland expected to hold 3,500 to 4,000 home sites.

"Growth was always the goal for us here in Wilmington," said Alan Degen, New Leaf's Wilmington division president, noting the company grew its local office from a few employees in 2021 to 14 today. New Leaf has delivered nearly 150 homes in Riverlights over four years and partners with Criteria Development on both the Leland and a Calabash project.
